GritFX use Print-On-Demand (POD) Suppliers to bring our designs to our fans.
RedBubble, Zazzle, Skreened and CafePress are all Print-On-Demand (POD) service providers.
GritFX have tested numerous products in order to deliver our customers the best possible end result. Accordingly, we have limited our design availability to selected products, along with tailoring designs for certain apparel.
A POD will use a technique for printing on Dark T-Shirts* that requires a white print underlay to be placed on the fabric first, with the colour print layer of the actual design on top of this. Depending on the alignment of the two layers on the press, the quality of the final product can vary greatly.
In view of this, the GritFX designs for Black (or dark-coloured) T-Shirts are generally limited to either white printing only, or include a thin white border around any design that incorporates colour. This ensures that there are no issues regarding alignment on the finished product.
* Skreened uses a print process which excludes the use of the white underlay.
All artwork has been created for the highest possible quality output - producing our artwork at 300dpi even though POD minimum requirements specify 200dpi.
Not only do we create artwork at 300dpi, every design file is created at the appropriate size:
Redbubble has a maximum print area of 12" wide x 16" deep.
This size generally works the best with our designs and as such, we have chosen to feature mock-ups/links for these throughout our website.
Zazzle offers 2 maximum print area options - 14" wide x 12" deep OR 12" wide x 14" deep.
The extra width of the landscape option is perfect for those who love large linear designs (ie, Morrie's Wig Shop)
Skreened has a maximum print area of 11" wide x 17" deep.
Where proportions allow, this print area allows for some designs to printed at almost "Jumbo" size (ie, Zombie Surgeons on Crack)
Cafepress generally prints to a print area of 10" wide x 10" deep.
Note: (relates to all PODs) Where the t-shirts are small sizes (for example, the Women's "Petite" T-Shirts), the print area will be smaller to fit.
RE: GritFX Textures - Light Tees VS Dark Tees
The GritFX textures used on many of our T-Shirt designs will often be limited to light apparel only. We may retain the texture where we have included a thin white border and colours in the design, however, in most cases the designs for Dark T-Shirts will be printed as a solid - void of the GritFX graphic textures. We do this because the heavier ink used on dark apparel will naturally crack over time - that's years, not washes - providing you with your own naturally worn tee look.
